JenEric Foods was founded by Eric and Jennifer Halverson. We have had a passion for high quality local craft food and beverages for a long time together! We both enjoy cooking and traveling. We like to play outside and visit fun places that have great food and beverage experiences. We like to visit farmer's markets, farms, gardens and farm to table style restaurants and pop-ups that focus on fresh, local seasonal and organic products.
Our brewing journey started a few years back when we fell in love with the Craft Beer scene and had fun visiting and tasting our way around so many wonderful craft breweries. First home brewing adventure was a double IPA which came out amazing!! While at Stone in Escondido, a couple at the bar told us we absolutely had to try Golden Coast Mead in Oceanside. We went that night and fell head over heels in love with the mead and the people and became regulars. Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from fermenting honey and water with yeast, as wine is fermented grape juice and beer is fermented grain juice : ) We had already been drinking kombucha regularly at this time and I had been flirting with the idea of brewing kombucha at home. We took a kombucha home-brew workshop at Fermentation Farm. First mead home-brew and kombucha home-brew happened on the same night!
Miracle of Miracles, we discovered that there was a type of kombucha SCOBY that preferred honey and green tea to sugar and black tea. Reached out to Hannah of Kombucha Kamp and ordered our first Jun culture.
The vision to build a business together has been part of our vision from the beginning. We have built our fun around outside adventures, food and beverages so building a business as part of the food community is a very natural step for us. Fermentation and particularly fermented beverages have come on strong for us over the last few years and have become a regular part of our day. JenEric Jun is Eric's favorite drink! : ) We started the year by joining Kombucha Brewers International and attending KombuchaKon and then we took our vision to the next step by attending the InTents Conference in San Diego, CA on the Vernal Equinox. We are still riding that wave! : ) We have already signed up for both events in 2018! : )
